The leaf springs are left at the factory spec to maintain a smooth ride that is not stiff and jarring like some aftermarket leafs can be. You achieve 1 to 1-1/2" of additional tire clearance through the heavy duty shackles. Not only are they taller, they are made stronger with thicker side plates, and are greasable for longer life.
