No single upgrade can have as big of an offroad performance benefit as a locking differential. ARB is one of the originals and always our preferred option. The selectable design of the locker ensures easy, smooth operation under normal driving conditions, but maximum traction when needed. Their complete line offers fitment for nearly every application imaginable, and delivers 100% lock up on-demand. A relentless commitment to reliable design and the highest quality of component materials means that ARB Air Lockers are ready to handle the abuse you can throw out. From overland expedition builds to competition crawlers to desert and rock racing, ARB has logged the podium finishes and epic journeys to back up their pedigree. If that wasn't enough, all ARB air lockers are backed by a 5 year warranty. Even when time has passed beyond warranty, ARB Air Lockers are fully serviceable and rebuildable.

Toyota's legendary Tacoma needs basically no introduction. For over 20 years, it has remained the standard of what to expect in durability and capability in a compact truck. Over the years, the formula has remained relatively unchanged, depending on factory options there is 1 of 3 available rear diffs, and the front diff is either a 7.5" or 8" clamshell depending on the year. Many 2wd and 4wd Tacomas come equipped with a factory rear e-locker, but these can be problematic and unreliable in the long run. Factory E-locker trucks came equipped with the 8" 'V6' diff through the 2015 model year, but the 2016 Gen 3 trucks saw a significant upgrade to the newer 8.9" rear diff for all trucks with the E-locker (or if the truck came equipped with a manual transmission). The 8.4" rear diff was used on open diff trucks through the 2015 model year, but from 2016 on, open diff trucks with automatics come equipped with the 8" 'V6' diff.

The front diff options are less confusing, 1995 through 2004 came equipped with a 7.5" IFS differential. With the 2005+ Gen2 Tacomas, came a new available 4.0L V6 and much larger size and weight; the front differential was upgraded to an 8" ring gear. Both differentials are clamshell, reverse rotation high pinion differentials. The 8" does have a carrier break, so it is always recommended to verify which gears you will be running and what carrier split they are designed for, whether you are upgrading to deeper aftermarket ratios or re-using factory.
